The game & setting
A grimy, lived-in future where monsters can be found in the dark and in the boardroom.
High Frontier
Wage Slaves takes place in UKLTA’s High Frontier setting, inspired by the Alien franchise and other films featuring mega-corporations and working joes.
We provide a setting guide which goes into more detail.
Wage Slaves has a largely standalone plot. Links to previous storylines exist, but you don't need to understand them to enjoy the game. New characters are as capable as existing ones.
An overview of play
Play takes place outdoors across the weekend, with out-of-character breaks for food and sleep. Some abilities use abstract skill challenges.
Combat is handled primarily with lasertag which uses safe infrared signals much like television remote controls. The beams are focused so you do have to aim, but have range exceeding most sight lines at the event site.
Character advancement comes through knowledge, contacts, and other plot developments, rather than extra abilities. This prevents new players being placed at a disadvantage.
Conflict
This is primarily a Player vs Environment game. It is expected that the players will largely be working towards goals which don't bring them into extreme conflict. There could be in-character blazing arguments, but we don't expect that to escalate to violence. Antagonists will be portrayed by members of the crew.
Out on the frontier, danger is common. All player characters, military or civilian, have the option to carry a weapon.
Themes & content
This game includes themes of workers’ rights, debt bondage, infection, and body horror. There may be monsters and jump scares.
If you are concerned that these elements may make the game less fun for you, feel free to discuss it with us.
